Pop Culture Around Us

¿Is Pop Culture Good For You?

" Pop culture is a universal language that manages in all of its seemingly trivial glory, to make us dream and smile, to connect us across racial, political, and social divides. It is part of our fabric as human beings." - TED. (2013, July 15) Alexandre O. Philippe at TEDXMileHigh : Why Pop Culture. Retrieved from https://youtu.be/u_3UYncNwz4?feature=shared .

       Through television/ Media

During the years, Pop Culture has been evolving. It is shown through televisions and radios by what we are watching and listening. Pop Culture is what makes our society move towards development. Every year, new tv shows and films are being release helping to contribute to our learning and understanding of society's norms and more.

For years, people majorly thought and still think the younger generation is becoming dumber and is pursuing simple pleasures through the excessive demands of shows and musics. As Johnsons states in his article : Watching TV Makes You Smarter, the exact opposite is happening, the culture is becoming more demanding and to make sense of an episode of 24, you have to integrate far more information than you would have a few decades ago watching a comparable show ( Johnson, 278).  In his article in 2005, Johnson explains to us the sleeper curve effects on the younger generation. From Johnson, television plays a big role into education : from learning, making better analysis and judgment to managing and recognizing your emotions and feelings.

Now some of the new songs play on radios or Tvs are written in cryptic ways to make our brain work harder than before , and some are written to deliver and share certain emotions/ feelings.

Through social media/ Internet

The Revolution of Social Media is due to Pop Culture

"Social Networks are effective at increasing participation- by lessening the level of motivation that participation required" -  Malcom Gladwell, Small Change

Memes, fandom communities and trending topics have been expanded through social media platforms by Pop culture. The amount of people interacting together and creating bond no matter how weak or strong they are is due to this revolution. Nowadays, everything can be find on Internet : from fashion styles, lifstyle trends to rights movements and politics. A former national security adviser wrote " Without Twitter the people of Iran would not have felt empowered and confident to stand up for freedom and democracy" and also later called for Twitter to be nomanited for the Nobel Peace Prize ( Caldwell, 314).

Pop Culture made it possible to open a new vision of the world to certain people by showing/ sharing on social media what's happening in other countries :  now all social platforms and influencers all around the world have a time dedicated to the latest and most exclusives news.

"When a group of people come together with a common idea, that's how pop culture is form" - TED. (February 5, 2015) Phil Miller at TEDxWoking : Pop culture is dead.  Retrieved from https://youtu.be/CkDYlQhx0wY?feature=shared .

Now Pop culture is everywhere : in our home, through google and applications like Instagram and games, and it is being change and adapted to anything we do; Affecting the way we talk, walk and dress, and even affecting our workplaces . Now we can listen and watch what we would like to, anytime and anywhere we want. ( TED, February 2015).

Through television and social media and in our everyday life we are creating Popular culture : every actions we do, every step in technology and education is a positive progress we are doing as intelligent humans on the world.
